Licence to cook - Pizza

Pizza!

Who doesn´t like pizza? Kids love it and our guests too. Hands full of flour and kneading the dough is the best. Everyone makes their own pizza, parents too. Choose your favourite toppings: smoked salmon, tuna, eggplant, avocados, red onions, peppers, sardines, mussels, goat cheese, mozzarella or portuguese cheese from our favourite cheese shop Juustokauppa Miguel "Say-cheese" at Hietalahdenkauppahalli. Lilia suggested candies as topping. Three to four minutes in a hot oven and that's it.

Pizza!

Lilia quiso poner caramelos. 3 a 4 minutos en horno fuerte y lista.

Licence to cook - Bizcocho

We want to teach our kids the importance of home made, tasty food and a balanced diet. We cook at home daily and try to let the kids participate as much as possible. Food tastes better when you have made it yourself and eat it surrounded by friends and family.

This time we prepared together a sponge cake grandmum style.

P.S. Thanks Mum for the recepy!

P.D. Gracias Mamá por la receta!

Helsinki Cathedral (Tuomiokirkko)

Hi,

Helsinki Cathedral is one of the most popular attractions and the symbol of the city. In our opinion, the best of the Cathedral is its staircase. Sunny during sunsets. Perfect to enjoy ice creams in summer.

Hola,

Padron bell peppers

Hi,

We have planted Padron bell peppers (Pimientos del Padron) at home.  These peppers are typical in Galicia. Deep fried in olive oil and seasoned with rock salt... delicious! No sauce needed!

We planted the seeds some weeks ago. It was first time for Lilia and she seemed very interested. She is in charge of watering the plants everyday. The seeds have germinated already. We have moved them into a bigger pot. We hope that the plants keep growing and take them outside when it's warm enough.

As well, we are very interested to learn more about gardening. We would like to know, where in Helsinki, kids and parents, could learn more about it. Any ideas?

Ps. Thanks Veronica for the seeds.

Hola,

Alguna idea?

Gracias.

ps. Gracias Veronica por las semillas.

Route: Töölö Bay / Töölonlahti

Hi,

One of my goals is to find different routes. Walking, cycling or in public transport. Routes where we can enjoy together the city of Helsinki.

First: the Töölö Bay /Töölönlahti route.  In my opinion it is one of the best places Helsinki. It's located in the middle of the city and it's easy to reach from any point of the city. I divide it in three parts: Hakansalmenpuisto, Töölönlahti and Linnunlaulu. About 2,1 km, an adult can do it in 20-25 min. Of course with kids it may be different.  In general, the path is flat and asphalted, there is only one slope of 450 m (up & down) which is easy to pass. The route's views are amazing; pure nature in the heart of HKI. It is normal to find wild ducks and swans.

In Hakansalmenpuisto,  there is a spacious kindergarden with different games. Next to it, there's a chess park where you usually see people playing. Nearby, the restaurant Töölönranta and café Tyyni (closed during winters). Then, also the Opera house, where there is an open air amphitheatre. During summers you see people doing all kinds of stuff there, like Zumba lessons. This park is great for picnics.

In Töölönlahti, there is the Finlandia Hall designed by Alvar Aalto. There are guided visits but I do not know if they are child friendly - maybe I should check it out and make a post about it.

And finally, a pit stop in the lovely café Sininen Huvila, located in Linnunlaulu. It has spectacular views but also a bit of a slope. A kid walking could complain a bit, but really, since pushing the baby stroller is nothing - what are the father's shoulders made for.

Bye!

Hola,

Adios!

The not so far future....

Hi everyone!

The not so far future is getting closer. I will begin to blog again.
From 1st of May, I start a new paternity leave. It will be now my turn to take daily care of our new born child, Lola, when her mum goes back to working life. Of course, Lilia, Lola's older sister, will join us in the new adventures and together the girls will learn intensively Spanish, my mother tongue.

We have many plans already: we will get to know Helsinki city and explore the possibilities with kids, restaurants, parks, tours, trips abroad and to the countryside and cooking with kids, so that they learn the importance of cooking healthy and balanced food.
